Empowering Seniors To Transform Lives

About Us

Volunteering Creates Connection

We’re proud to be known as the “Senior Volunteer People.” For over 40 years, we’ve helped older adults in Tampa Bay find purpose, connection, and belonging, while transforming the lives of others in the process. Research shows loneliness, disconnection, and isolation are as dangerous to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and older adults are most at risk. When people volunteer, they tend to live longer, feel better, and remain mentally and emotionally stronger. At the heart of our mission is helping seniors use the wisdom, skills, and compassion they’ve built over a lifetime to make a lasting difference … starting with themselves.

We Match Volunteer Strengths With Community Needs

Every volunteer is unique. That’s why we start by getting to know each person’s strengths, passions, and personality. Then, using our network of 150+ local partners, from elementary schools and VA clinics to food pantries and senior living communities, we match them with the opportunity that fits. We provide ongoing training, support, and community, so every volunteer feels confident, connected, and valued.

Where Our Volunteers Make an Impact

At Seniors in Service, we focus on one thing: people helping people. Every day, our volunteers show up to foster connection, restore dignity, empower success and meet real human needs across Tampa Bay.

Tutor and Mentor Children

Classroom Grandparents serve an average of 15 hours per week in the same elementary school classroom, for the entire year, providing the one-on-one attention struggling students need to learn to read.

Senior Companionship

Connection is one of the strongest predictors of health and longevity. We help isolated seniors feel seen, supported, and cared for through:

  • Senior Companions: Weekly in-home visits and friendship to help seniors age-in-place
  • Health Buddies: 12-weeks of supportive phone calls and health education to help adults with chronic conditions improve their mental and physical well-being
  • TelePals: Ongoing, friendly phone calls from a volunteer that build lasting connection
  • Group Companionship: In-community social activities that turn neighbors into friends.

Support Veterans

There is a special bond of understanding and shared experience among service members. Our “Veterans-Serving-Veterans” model leverages this camaraderie by engaging volunteers who have served or are part of a military family to support their fellow veterans, military members, and their families through resources and social connection.

Senior Disaster Support

After a hurricane, your neighbors are your closest support system. But many seniors don’t know theirs. Our Senior Disaster Support program creates monthly gatherings in high-risk senior communities to build neighbor-to-neighbor trust and educate residents on how to prepare and recover together.

Feed Hungry Families

We help large and small food pantries and hot meal sites throughout Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties by recruiting the dedicated, caring volunteers they need to ensure no family has to go hungry.

Build Capacity for Nonprofits

Volunteers use their specialized skills to help local nonprofits operate more effectively. Their support expands what these organizations can achieve, making a bigger impact across Tampa Bay.
