Meet Lorena Mielke

Director of Programs

Lorena Mielke joined Seniors in Service in 2017 as the Program Coordinator for Readers in Motion, a role that resonated deeply with her personal journey. As a child who immigrated from Venezuela with limited English, she remembers how overwhelming the culture and school system felt. It was the support of caring teachers that helped her persevere. That experience helped shape her approach to ensuring students have a supportive system of compassionate volunteers and educational resources to help them succeed.

In 2020, Lorena was promoted to Education Programs Manager, where she led the expansion of literacy and mentorship programs across Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties, building strong, collaborative relationships with volunteers, educators, principals, and families.

In 2022, she was promoted to Director of Programs, overseeing all Seniors in Service initiatives. She has played a vital role in expanding services, strengthening staff leadership, and deepening community partnerships. Her thoughtful, purposeful leadership continues to guide the growth of programs that uplift children, seniors, and families throughout Tampa Bay.
