During the grand re-opening celebration of the Walmart Tampa Market on Florida Avenue, the store donated $1,000 to support volunteer mentors serving students at Oak Grove Elementary.

Students at Oak Grove Elementary will continue receiving valuable reading support and encouragement thanks to a generous donation from Walmart and the Walmart Tampa Market on Florida Avenue.

On April 26, Seniors in Service joined community members and store associates in celebrating the grand re-opening of the newly renovated Walmart location on Florida Avenue. As part of the celebration, the store presented a $1,000 donation to support the Classroom Grandparent program at Oak Grove Elementary.

The contribution will help provide one-on-one reading assistance, mentorship, and encouragement to students who benefit from additional academic support in the classroom. Through the Classroom Grandparents program, trained older adult volunteers work alongside teachers to help children strengthen literacy skills and build confidence in their ability to succeed at school.

For many students, consistent encouragement from a caring adult can make a lasting impact. Classroom Grandparents serve as mentors and positive role models while helping children stay engaged and motivated in their learning journey.

Walmart continues to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening local communities by investing in programs that support education and student achievement. This partnership with Seniors in Service helps ensure more children have access to the resources and support they need to thrive academically and emotionally.

Seniors in Service is grateful to the Walmart Tampa Market on Florida Avenue for recognizing the importance of literacy, mentorship, and intergenerational connection. Their support helps create brighter futures for students across Tampa Bay while reinforcing the power of community partnerships.
